Mid-career PM · Cross-functional conflict
Tell me about a time you disagreed with a peer on another team. How did you resolve it?
Your answer
As PM for onboarding, I disagreed with our design partner about removing identity checks. People were abandoning setup, but our risk lead worried that fewer checks would allow fraudulent accounts.
I brought design, risk, and engineering together to compare where users dropped off with which checks caught fraud. I proposed keeping the email check upfront and moving document upload until users needed a paid feature.
Risk pushed back on the delay. We agreed on a small pilot, daily monitoring, and a rollback threshold. More participants completed setup without a rise in flagged accounts during the pilot. I learned to agree on risk boundaries before comparing solutions.
Ready to practise
Strongest part: You made the disagreement concrete and found a way to test both the user experience and the risk concern.
Next refinement: Add the pilot’s timeframe and results so the reader can judge the impact.
